Fire Prevention Week

                    Fire Prevention Books
Many of the students in Room 6 have asked
about the books that I used for "Fire Prevention
Week".  I told the kids that I would post them on the blog.

The first book we read was Fire, Fire  by Gail Gibbons.
This is an informational book so it was used to teach main idea and details.

The next day we practiced retelling a story by using
The Fire Station  by Robert Munsch.

I always feel that it is important for the children to understand
all of the jobs of firefighters.

The students were especially interested in the story of
Smokey the Bear.

There were several fun books that we read about fire safety.

The following link to Sparky is one that the kids really enjoyed.

APPLE WEEK FUN!

APPLE WEEK BOOKS
Apple week was a great success in Room 6.  The students enjoyed the activities,
but also enjoyed the books that we used to learn about apples.
The book we used first was an informational book.
Gail Gibbons has written many informational books for students of this age.

To help the students understand the life of families that pick apples for income, I used the book,
Apple Picking Time.

The kids really loved reading the Apple Pigs book.

Of course, the highlight of this book was making those apple pigs.

Other books that the students enjoyed are the following:

We completed our week by reading the book, Applesauce.
.The kids loved eating the applesauce they helped to make.

WOW!  What a great learning time!

Constitution Day Books

Constitution Day in Room 6

This past week we celebrated Constitution Day in Room 6.  I used many books that I think the
students were quite interested in reading.   I just wanted to share those with you.

I based our class constitution and our word study from this book.

The students were very interested in the people that were at the Constitutional Convention so I pulled out these two books and read portions of them.

The students also were very interested in the process of writing the Constitution.

The kids enjoyed this brief video song of the Preamble to the Constitution by Schoolhouse Rocks.

Room 6 Loves Books
In Room 6 we read many books.  Often parents ask the names of the books that we are reading, because their student would like to find these titles at the library or they might want to purchase a special one for a birthday or holiday.

The past month, Room 6 has read many Audrey Wood books.
Some of our favorites are:

I use these books to teach comprehension skills to the students, but the students just love hearing them.
Other Audrey Wood books that the students would enjoy include:

Audrey and Don Wood have a website that is fantastic for kids.
